Proper maintenance is essential to keep trucks on the road. And even if you think you are doing a good job of managing your fleet maintenance program, there are some things that can help you get the most out of your efforts.

Here are some quick and easy ways to increase the effectiveness of your maintenance program.

 1:  Pay attention to driver inspection reports: Drivers are your first line of defense to keep your trucks on the road. Be sure to examine your DVIR and take steps to correct things that you consider out of specification. If drivers are to take your findings seriously, they are more likely to be diligent in their inspections before and after the trip. Also, keep in mind drivers use the identified trends and plan a service campaign to resolve the problem on all affected assets.
 2:  Do not put off maintenance: While it is easy to fall into the "just this once" trap when it comes to skipping a scheduled maintenance appointment for each PMI service and maintenance is important. Remember, the sooner you find an easier and cheaper development problem, it is correct.
 3:  15:00 Lane Compliance: Establish a system that allows you to view vehicles that are up to date on your maintenance service. This is especially important if your vehicles do not return to your site on a regular basis. You should be able to tell at a glance which truck had the necessary preventive maintenance service and you need to plan this service to adjust them.
 4:  The use of VMRS codes: VMRS codes are the universal language of maintenance and repair. Using VMRS codes means that everyone understands exactly what is wrong with a truck and what was done to repair it. VMR codes become especially important if you use external service providers to perform maintenance. Regardless of who does the maintenance, VMRS codes clearly indicate what problems occurred and what steps have been taken to correct them.
 5:  The same size does not fit all: It is best to adapt maintenance and service inspections to each asset. A unique approach to maintenance does not give you the best results. You will most likely see some trucks too often, while others may not see as often as they should.
 6:  Review Maintenance Programs: As you add new assets and age assets is important, it is important to periodically review your truck maintenance programs to ensure they correspond to the age and work cycle of the vehicle
